About
Susanne
Susanne Lahusen teaches yoga, Pilates and
gyrotonic®/gyrokinesis®. Whilst respecting the unique
characteristics of each discipline, her approach to teaching has
evolved from an awareness of the elements that are fundamental to all
movement.
In 1991, she began to practice Astanga yoga with Derek Ireland, and has
since studied with many renowned teachers. Richard Freeman and Doug
Keller, in particular, have had a strong effect on her own practice and
approach to teaching yoga. Other important influences include the
release based work of Vanda Scaravelli, Jivamukti yoga, her training as
an Alexander teacher, and the rhythmic and energetic qualities of
gyrokinesis®. Susanne taught Astanga primary and second series
for
many years, more recently she changed her classes to vinyasa flow. Her
classes are creative and fluid, yet precise and carefully
sequenced to allow for individual progression.
In 2006 she completed an advanced Yoga teachers’ course at
The
Life Centre accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga, and is now a
mentor on the Life Centre’s teacher training programme.
Susanne trained as a Pilates teacher in 1982, after completing a BEd in
Movement Studies and an MA in Dance. She is a founder member of the
PILATESfoundation. In 2001 she set up a Pilates teacher training course
at The Place in London which she ran for 7 years. She also teaches
anatomy, somatics, runs professional workshops for teachers, and is an
examiner for the PILATESfoundation.
Susanne enjoys teaching at all levels, she works with dancers and
acrobats at The Place, Laban and The Circus Space, and she runs her own
studio in Battersea.
She has previously run several retreats in Italy and Greece.
